What we take
Fridge Freezer Disposal
Fridges and freezers, while useful, are awkward to move. They contain harmful chemicals that require special processing and aren’t collected on the kerbside. Some of them are light, but they still don’t fit well in vehicles unless you have access to a van.
When you want to get rid of your old fridge or freezer, let us handle it. We will remove it and recycle or donate where possible, making sure that it is disposed of responsibly.
Local fridge and freezer removal made easy
We will do the heavy lifting, and make sure the fridge or freezer is handled correctly to prevent any environmental hazards posed by the chemicals inside of them.
Here’s how we do it:
- To get an estimate and understand our availability you can use our Online Booking Enquiry form, or give us a call.
- The day before you’ll get a reminder email, and a text when the team is on their way (you can even follow them on Google Maps!)
- Show us the fridge or freezer you want removed, and we will confirm the price with you
- When you’re happy to go ahead, we process the payment, take the fridge/freezer away and sweep up after ourselves. If you can’t be there to approve the work, we will even take photos and send them to you
Responsible fridge and freezer disposal
If any refrigerators and freezers still work, we will do our best to donate them and minimise waste going to landfill. If you would like more information on what we take, check out our FAQ.
Fridge and freezer disposal costs
Because of their hazardous nature, it is quite costly for us to dispose of fridges and freezers in the proper way, as we need to pass these costs on. Unfortunately, this goes some way to explain why people and some companies fly-tip fridges and freezers. Please see our transparent pricing for the latest prices on fridge and freezer disposal.
You can be rest assured that we take fly tipping very seriously, in fact, we are used by a number of property managers to remove fly-tipped waste from their sites. This is why it is so important that you ensure you receive a Waste Transfer Note for your waste, particularly for fridges and freezers. If you are a business, you will also legally need a Hazardous Waste Consignment Note, which we will issue to you.
Why are fridges and freezers classed as hazardous waste?
Ozone-depleting substance regulations were introduced in 2000 and 2002 respectively for industrial and household refrigeration equipment. This is because historically the contained CFC and HCFC gasses which are known to be bad for the environment. The gasses are contained within the pipes to the rear of the fridge and within the insulating foam contained throughout the door and sides of the unit. Because of this, fridges and freezers must be disposed of through a safe process to recover these gasses. There are a number of plants throughout the UK that can do this, however, all refrigeration units need to be handled carefully and treated as hazardous waste until such time as they can be de-gassed. CFCs and HCFCs are no longer used in new refrigerators, however there replacement, pentane, is still being considered by the government whether these too need to be disposed of through authorised fridge plants.
